Appraisals….do I need one?
An appraisal is a document which describes a piece of jewelry and indicates the retail replacement value. Insurance companies almost always require an appraisal before issuing a rider for insurance on valuable pieces of jewelry. Sometimes, insurance companies will cover items valued under a certain amount without an appraisal. On those items not requiring an appraisal, Ecolin suggests you take a photo of the piece and keep it for future reference.
When an appraisal is made by Ecolin, there is never a charge to update the appraisal to reflect increasing costs of metals and precious gems. Simply bring the item in for a new picture and quick check, and an updated appraisal will be created. All items requiring an appraisal that were purchased at Ecolin are appraised free of charge. Items purchased elsewhere are charged our normal per item fee.
